9 days / 8 nights

Friday 18th – Saturday 26th November 2016 [Please depart from your country origin on Thursday 17th November ]

If participants are keen to hike on the Inca Trail they must register at least 6 months before the start of the trip to guarantee their place as permits are limited and get booked up very quickly all year round. Those who are not able to secure a permit can still take part in the rest of the trip and visit Machu Picchu without the Inca Trail hike.

The package includes:

The package comes without flights and visa (provided on arrival) but includes local transportation, breakfast only, 3* hotel accommodation and entrance fees to sites of interest mentioned in the itinerary below: Sample itinerary (Subject to slight modifications). Each day there will be a brief for the day, spiritual reminders throughout the day with important historical facts and points by our guide and an evening summary.

Day 1: Arrival in Lima. Attend Jumu‘ah prayers at Mezquita de Magdalena and meet local Muslims. Visit Larco museum of pre-Colombian art. Stay overnight in Lima.

Day 2: Spend a day with a local Muslim guide exploring one of South America’s most dynamic cities. Places to be visited include Plaza de Armas, Museo Nacional, San Isidro and ruins of Huaca Pucllana.

Day 4: After an early breakfast we hike in the jungle for about 2-3 hours to a lake. Along the way we have the opportunity to observe a wide variety of flora and fauna. We then board a canoe to further seek out colourful birds and mammals living along the periphery of the lake. In the evening we take a short boat ride to observe caimans.

Day 5: After sunrise we take an early boat back towards Puerto Maldonado. The morning flora and fauna which are particularly active at this time of the day include howler monkeys and macaws. From Puerto Maldonado we catch an internal flight to Cusco. Upon arrival we continue by road to Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. The afternoon is spent acclimatising to the high altitude and exploring this historic Inca town.

Day 6: We catch an early train towards Machu Picchu through the picturesque Sacred Valley. Midway we stop to join the Inca trail. During the hike we climb to Wiñay Wayna. After lunch we walk for another hour onto Inti Punku before descending to Machu Picchu. Overnight stay in the nearby town of Aguas Calientes.

Day 7: There is the option to have a quiet morning around Machu Picchu or get up to catch the sunrise. The rest of the day is spent exploring ruins and other sites of interest followed by a second night in Aguas Calientes.

Day 8: Take a mid morning train from Aguas Calientes back towards Cusco. Spend the rest of the day exploring Cusco town including the Plaza de Armas and San Blas areas.

Day 9: Visit the ruins of Sacsayhuaman which was once the capital of the Inca Empire. Depending on time we have the option to visit further ruins in the vicinity. We then head off to the airport for an internal flight to Lima from where onward international connections are made.
