The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is reported to have said, “Seek knowledge even unto China.” (Al-Baihaqi)
The presence of Islam in China is as old as Islam itself. There are over 1200 years of Sino-Islamic relations, ranging from the early da’wah efforts of the companion Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas to the pioneering journeys of the greatest naval commander in Chinese history, Admiral Zheng He, to the fact that there are millions of Muslims living throughout China today.
Our trip commences in the present day capital Beijing where we explore the iconic Forbidden City, remnants of the Great Wall and the Muslim neighbourhood of Niujie. We then proceed by bullet train to the Imperial capital of Xi’an which is renowned for the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Here we also visit the Muslim Quarter featuring the Great Mosque of Xi’an, lively markets and stunning architecture. Thereafter we continue further west to Lanzhou on the banks of the Yellow River followed by Linxia, a city on the ancient Silk Road that has served as a hub for different Muslim communities for centuries. Our next stop is Zhangye which is home to Danxia National Geological Park where the world famous Rainbow Mountains are situated. The final segment of our epic journey through China takes us along the Qilian Mountains to Xining on the Tibetan Plateau. This melting pot of cultures surrounded by breathtaking scenery is a fitting location to conclude the tour.
