There are many reasons why you should visit Ecuador but foremost among these is the fact that it is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world with a variety of landscapes and ecosystems. It is also a region that is steeped in culture and history that has been shaped by a mixture of indigenous traditions and colonial influences.
We begin in the capital Quito which is the closest major city to the equator. Sitting at an altitude of over 2,850 metres, it offers incredible views of the surrounding mountains. We connect with indigenous Muslim community and learn more about the Islamic inspired features that are evident in the designs of some of Quito’s religious buildings such as the Iglesia San Francisco. We then head into the Andes Mountains where we are treated to some spectacular scenery featuring serene volcanoes, picturesque towns, unusual flora and delightful fauna such as llamas, alpacas and vicuñas.
During the final part of our journey we continue to Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador situated at the mouth of the Rio Guayas which drains into the Pacific Ocean.
